Language is perceived in two different forms: The written language and the spoken language.
Our Montessori program introduces the children to common, household items, making it easier for them to make mental connections by using the repetitive association with these items. While teaching the children vocabulary, we introduce them first to a tangible form of the word, i.e. plastic fruit, and then to pictures of the word. Correct pronunciation by the children is one of our goals in teaching vocabulary.
We introduce the children to writing as early as possible. We use writing cards, on which a model of the desired word is written in dotted lines, and the child traces over the word before writing it on their own. This teaches the child the correct way to write by not straying from common standards that the dotted lines provide.
